International outrage against Monsanto and GMOs by activists and concerned citizens at large is paying off once again. Just days after Mexico announced a complete ban on the growth of GMO corn, Los Angeles lawmakers have now gone on record in setting up Los Angeles to be the largest GMO-free region in the United States.
Specifically, L.A. politicians are responding to the call for a ban on the cultivation, sale, and even distribution of GMOs at large. In other words, an entirely ‘GMO-free’ zone.
This would be one of the most powerful pieces of legislation to pass in the fight against Monsanto that has ever been seen — especially in the Monsanto-owned United States, where even the USDA has given Monsanto’s genetically modified creations special ‘speedy approval’ access to their regulation techniques.
Politicians Forced to Act
But even despite Monsanto’s tentacles being locked deep inside the political system, we are now seeing politicians who are forced into taking action by their supporters. This appears to be the case with Los Angeles City Councilmen Paul Koretz and Mitch O’Farrell, who are responsible for introducing the motion and subsequently addressing the demands of the population.
And thanks to activism and the high-powered spread of information on the subject of Monsanto and GMOs, we are seeing this kind of action on a much more frequent basis.
In fact, the number of politicians now driven to fight against Monsanto in order to retain support is climbing to the point where my prediction of Monsanto’s economic downfall within the next few years may indeed become a reality thanks to enraged voters.
Just look at how much information is being launched into the mainstream even in major media reports on the Los Angeles initiative, with City Councilman Kortez stating:
“A growing number of problems are being traced to GMOs,.. the evolution of ‘superbug’ insects which are growing immune to the pesticides engineered within GMO crops” and ”‘seed drift’ (for example the recent finding of GMO-pollinated wheat growing in an Oregon farmer’s field).”
These are the facts we have been telling you for years, and it is a major victory to see them now reaching millions more around the globe. If Los Angeles is able to push through the GMO ban into city wide regulation, it would be a direct blow to the beast that is Monsanto and the biotech industry at large.

Mexico and Hawaii Ban GMO's
Both Mexico and Hawaii have passed new legislation against GMO as people worldwide march against Monsanto
Christof Lehmann , - The Big Island of Hawaii County Council Committee has passed a GMO prohibition bill which is progressing to the full Council on 16 October. A Mexican judge has banned GMO corn, citing that it poses an imminent threat. People worldwide are again marching against Monsanto, the main producer of GMO´s. The developments in Hawaii and Mexico indicate that the campaign to raise awareness about GMO´s and GMO food giants is gaining momentum.
People are marching against GMO and Monsanto, again. The website of the Russian TV channel Russia Today (RT) reports, that rallies, drawing hundreds of protesters each, have been held in some 500 cities worldwide.
Rallies are, among others, being held in Berlin, Strasbourg, Chicago, London, Sydney and Mumbai. In May 2013 some two million worldwide went into the streets to march against Monsanto and GMO.
Even though the rallies on Sunday 13 October did not mobilize millions, it seems that the persistence of the campaigners and increased public awareness about the necessity to take part in taking action is yielding results worldwide.
Big Island of Hawai may Ban GMO. The Big Island of Hawaii County Council Committee has passed a GMO prohibition Bill by a vote of 6-2. The Bill 113 passed out of committee and is progressing to the full Council, set for October 16th.
If the bill passes, it will be a significant victory for those, worldwide, who are concerned about the dangers of GMOs. The legislation will ban all open air cultivation of GMOs, with the exception of papaya which already has genetically modified forms being grown on the island.
Although the final adoption would constitute a major victory for the opponents of GMOs, some criticize the council and the bill for having a blind spot with regards to GM papaya. The Hawaiian organic farmer, Melanie Bondera, asks why the creators of genetically-engineered papaya fruit had to work so hard to introduce it.
Bondera asks in NW RAGE, if the GE papaya is really a simple solution to a major agricultural disease that farmers want, it would be readily adopted by governments, farmers and markets. However, it is not. The concern over this genetically modified organism (GMO) food is so great, that it creates resistance, loss of markets, contamination and more loss of markets…
Judge bans genetically-engineered corn in Mexico, citing that it poses an imminent danger. The winds of change have also begun blowing over Mexican corn fields. On 10 October media in Mexico City cited the group La Copachera for announcing that genetically engineered corn has been banned in Mexico.
According to the press release issued by La Copachera, a Mexican Federal Judge has ordered Mexico´s Secretariat of Agriculture (SAGARPA) and the SEMARNAT, which is a secretariat similar to the Environmental protection Agency (EPA) in the USA to:
Immediately suspend all activities involving the planting of transgenic corn in the country and end the granting of permission for experimental and pilot commercial plantings”.
The unprecedented ban on GMOs in Mexico was issued by judge Jaime Eduardo Verdugo J, at the Twelfth Federal District Court of Mexico City. As the basis for the order, judge Jaime Verdugo cited:
“the risk of imminent harm to the environment”.
Judge slams Transnationals Monsanto, Pioneer and others. The judge also ruled that transnationals like Monsanto and Pioneer are banned from the release of transgenic maize in the Mexican countryside as long as collective action lawsuits, initiated by citizens, farmers, scientists, and civil society organizations are working their way through the judicial system.
One of the groups working its way through the legal system is the Acción Collectiva (Collective Action), led by the christian cleric, Father Miguel Concha of the Human Rights Center Fray Francisco de Vittoria. Acción Collectiva aims, according to one of its press releases, at achieving an absolute federal declaration on the suspension of the introduction of transgenic maize in all of its forms, including experimental and pilot commercial plantings in Mexico.
Rene Sanchez Galindo, the legal council for the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, stated that the ruling of Judge Jaime Verdugo constitutes a milestone in the long struggle of citizen demands for a GMO free country. Galindo added, that the ruling has serious enforcement provisions and includes the possibility of criminal charges for the authorities responsible for allowing the introduction of transgenic corn in Mexico.
Especially Monsanto is internationally infamous for its use of lobbyists within the governments of nations where it is doing business, leading elected officials to effectively represent Monsanto rather than their electorate. Corruption with regards to Monsanto is rampant and well documented, so is the transnational giant´s abuse of the country’s judicial system and the strategy to draw opponents into protracted legal battles which often lead to the bankruptcy of the plaintiff.
The ruling by Judge Jaime Eduardo Verdugo is setting a clear signal to the members of Mexico´s regulatory authorities by making them liable to criminal charges if they violate the rules.
Even though today´s rallies against Monsanto and GMO have not mobilized two million, like the March in May, marching against Monsanto and GMOs seems to make an impact.

Official March Against Monsanto Promo - Global Call to Action
Citizens of the World, This is a Global Call To Action.
On May 25, 2013, over 2 million people, from 52 countries, in more than 436 cities, took place in the first, Global Day of Action, and marched against Global Biotech Giant, Monsanto.
This Global Call to Action, is to initiate the second, Global Day of Action, and once again, call the masses to March Against Monsanto, on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Monsanto is one of the Most Hated, Corporations in the World.
They are blamed for more than 17,638 deaths in India alone, just in 2009.
Monsanto is responsible for many cancerous chemicals and products, including: Agent Orange, DDT, PCB's, and more.
The reckless use of these chemicals, calls into question: Monsanto's testing standards, lack of scientific rigor, disregard for the precautionary principle, and disregard for human life and the ecosystem.
Currently we're faced with Monsanto's proliferation of genetically modified foods, use of dangerous pesticides, and their efforts to control the food supply.
In 2000, An "Open Letter from World Scientists, to All Governments, Concerning Genetically Modified Organisms," was signed by 828 scientists from 84 countries, and detailed concern regarding GMO's. It also called for an immediate, 5 year suspension of GMO crops, in order to conduct "a comprehensive public enquiry, of agriculture, and food security for all."
On March 28, 2013, the "Monsanto Protection Act" was signed into law by the US Government, allowing Monsanto to promote and plant GMO's, and genetically engineered seeds, free, from any judicial litigation that might decide the crops are unsafe.
Whats more, are the substantial ties, between top, key positions at Mansanto, that also hold key positions with the FDA, EPA, and Supreme Court, not to mention, the Departments of Commerce, Defense, and State, the White House, and the Social Security Administration.
On Saturday, October 12, 2013, an estimated 3.5 Million People will once again, take part, in the 2nd, Global Day of Action against Monsanto, in more than 600 cities, world wide!
We invite you to join us, as we march on the Monsanto Global Headquarters in Saint Louis Missouri. This WILL BE the main event!
We will be meeting at Stacy Park, at 9750, Old Bonhomme Road, Saint Louis Missouri, 63132.

Huge Victory Against GMO's EU Validates GMO Cancer study
Please Share this vid, thanks. A huge win against GMO's and Monsanto this week as the European Food Safety Authority validates a very disturbing French GMO study linking GMO's to cancer. The agency recently vindicated Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini's published paper on the long-term health damage caused by eating Monsanto's genetically-modified (GM) NK603 corn, affirming that the study is, in fact, valid.
Monsanto has claimed the study is not valid, because the methodology used was flawed, we now know that the methodology was not flawed and Monsanto has once again been proven incorrect.

Monsanto Video Revolt! Must See Animation
From http://infomaticfilms.com/ and sponsored by http://naturalnews.com/, this new animated cartoon covers all the basics on why GMOs are dangerous.
Want to know more about GMOs and why they are a serious threat to not only mankind, but the environment and natural ecosystem as well? Then here are some excellent articles, websites and research links for you to have a look at and learn more!
But firstly, a brief introduction about what a GMO is, 5 reasons why we should avoid consuming them at all costs and some of the health risks GMOs pose.
A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process of taking genes from one species and inserting them into another in an attempt to obtain a desired trait or characteristic, hence they are also known as transgenic organisms. This process may be called either Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM); they are one and the same.
5 Reasons to avoid GMOs:
1. GMOs are unhealthy.
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. Human studies show how genetically modified (GM) food can leave material behind inside us, possibly causing long-term problems. Genes inserted into GM soy, for example, can transfer into the DNA of bacteria living inside us, and that the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn fetuses.
Numerous health problems increased after GMOs were introduced in 1996. The percentage of Americans with three or more chronic illnesses jumped from 7% to 13% in just 9 years; food allergies skyrocketed, and disorders such as autism, reproductive disorders, digestive problems, and others are on the rise. Although there is not sufficient research to confirm that GMOs are a contributing factor, doctors groups such as the AAEM tell us not to wait before we start protecting ourselves, and especially our children who are most at risk.
2. GMOs contaminate - forever.
GMOs cross pollinate and their seeds can travel. It is impossible to fully clean up our contaminated gene pool. Self-propagating GMO pollution will outlast the effects of global warming and nuclear waste. The potential impact is huge, threatening the health of future generations. GMO contamination has also caused economic losses for organic and non-GMO farmers who often struggle to keep their crops pure.
3. Genetic engineering creates dangerous side effects.
By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. Moreover, irrespective of the type of genes that are inserted, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.
4. Independent research and reporting is attacked and suppressed.
Scientists who discover problems with GMOs have been attacked, gagged, fired, threatened, and denied funding. The journal Nature acknowledged that a "large block of scientists...denigrate research by other legitimate scientists in a knee-jerk, partisan, emotional way that is not helpful in advancing knowledge." Attempts by media to expose problems are also often censored.
5. GMOs harm the environment.
GM crops and their associated herbicides can harm birds, insects, amphibians, marine ecosystems, and soil organisms. They reduce bio-diversity, pollute water resources, and are unsustainable. For example, GM crops are eliminating habitat for monarch butterflies, whose populations are down 50% in the US. Roundup herbicide has been shown to cause birth defects in amphibians, embryonic deaths and endocrine disruptions, and organ damage in animals even at very low doses. GM canola has been found growing wild in North Dakota and California, threatening to pass on its herbicide tolerant genes on to weeds.

Companies Against GMO Labeling
Numerous large food and seed corporations sunk over $46 million into the fight to defeat Proposition 37, which would have required food companies to list genetically modified ingredients on the labels of its products sold in retail stores. It would have also prevented the labeling of GMO foods as “natural.” The law would would have affected California, but because Californians make up 12% of the U.S. population, those Californian labels would have spilled over to other states as well. Currently food processors list ingredients, calorie, nutritional value and peanut content. Adding GMO ingredients to that list will benefit those who wish to steer clear, until GMO foods are deemed safe and healthy into the long term (yet many feel certain GMOs will never be proven healthy).
The record keeping necessary for the added labels will also help keep track of ecological issues such as gene flow between GMOs and the surrounding ecology, weed killer's affects, pest and superweed resistance and a host of other ecological issues that could potentially arise with rampant GMO use. This bill would have slowed down the influx of GM crops and help keep track of GMOs impacts.
All is not lost, as there is still hope. GMO Labeling Ballot Initiative (I-522) will be up for a vote in Washington State in 2013.
Currently Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Mexico, Australia and numerous other countries require that food labels list genetically modified ingredients. Why hasn't the the U.S. insisted on this labeling? Because many large corporations are fighting to keep the U.S. consumer in the dark. Let us know, if there are GMOs. We should have the right to know!

6 Ways To Buy Organic On A Budget
Please like us on Facebook > The Natural Health Page
1. Put your green bargaining cap on and talk
with farmers at the markets to negotiate a lower price for your produce. We
know they work hard for their money but it can’t hurt to ask. Bartering for
fare isn’t as strange as it sounds. Maybe they’ll unload the less popular
fruits and vegetables for less too.
2. Everyone’s looking for the perfect
specimen. You might want to choose produce that’s been passed over, because of
minimal bruising and spotting, and ask for a lower price. Let’s face it, basil
is going to wilt anyways once you chop it up or cook it so buying some that’s
already on its way isn’t going to affect its flavor. It just means that you’ll
want to use it sooner than later — which isn’t a bad thing.
3. More and more of the bigger food warehouse
stores (like Sam’s Club, for example) are carrying organic items. If you can
buy in bulk (dried beans, rice, canned tomatoes, organic coffee, etc.) this
will save you a few dollars too. If you want to buy vegetables in greater
quantities because of price, some will freeze nicely if slightly blanched
beforehand. Asparagus, green beans, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, turnips and
squashes can all be frozen.
4. Before you go to the Farmer’s Market and
get pulled into the romance of it all (“I must have those gorgeous garlic
scapes – now what do I do with them?”), plan ahead and go with a set list in
mind. If an item is too expensive because it’s just come in season, wait a week
and the price may go down.
5. The proliferation of websites that sell
organic food and related items is ever-growing and with the incentive of free
shipping on some sites, this may be a great alternative for you. Amazon.com is
even dabbling in selling organic grocery store items, so you’ll have a variety
of sources from which to choose.
6. Just as you search for coupons in your
local supermarket flyers (or watch them haphazardly fall out of your weekend
newspaper), many of the organic brand websites offer a way to print out coupons
too. If you don’t have access to a printer, some of the websites will simply
send you the coupons if you supply your snail mail address.

Monsanto Found Guilty of Chemical Poisoning in Landmark Case
Please like us on Facebook > The Natural Health Page
A French farmer who can no longer perform
his routine farming duties because of permanent pesticide injuries has had his
day in court, literally, and the perpetrator of his injuries found guilty of
chemical poisoning. The French court in Lyon ruled that Monsanto’s Lasso
weedkiller formula, which contains the active ingredient alachlor, caused Paul
Francois to develop lifelong neurological damage that manifests as persistent
memory loss, headaches, and stuttering during speech.
Reports indicate that the 47-year-old
farmer sued Monsanto back in 2004 after inhaling the Lasso product while
cleaning his sprayer tank equipment. Not long after, Francois began
experiencing lasting symptoms that prevented him from working, which he says
were directly linked to exposure to the chemical. Since Lasso’s packaging did
not bear adequate warnings about the dangers of exposure, Francois alleged at
the time that Monsanto was essentially negligent in providing adequate
protection for its customers.
To the surprise of many, the French court
agreed with the claims and evidence presented before it, declaring earlier this
year that “Monsanto is responsible for Paul Francois’ suffering after he
inhaled the Lasso product … and must entirely compensate him.” The court is
said to be seeking expert opinion on how to gauge Francois’ losses in order to
determine precisely how much Monsanto will be required to compensate him in the
case.
“It is a historic decision in so far as it
is the first time that a (pesticide) maker is found guilty of such a poisoning,” said Francois
Lafforgue, Paul Francois’ lawyer, to Reuters earlier
in the year.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), exposure to alachlor can cause
damage to the liver, kidneys, spleen, and eyes, and may lead to the development
of anemia and even cancer. The EPA apparently views alachlor as so dangerous,
in fact, that the agency has set the maximum contaminant level goals (MCLG) for
alachlor to zero in order to “prevent potential health problems.” (http://water.epa.gov/drink/contaminants/basicinformation/alachlor.cfm)
In 2007, France officially banned Lasso
from use in the country in accordance with a European Union (EU) directive
enacted in 2006 prohibiting the chemical from further use on crops in any
member countries. But despite all the evidence proving that alachlor can
disrupt hormonal balance, induce reproductive or developmental problems, and
cause cancer, the chemical is still being used on conventional crops throughout
the U.S. to this very day. (http://www.pesticideinfo.org/Detail_ChemReg.jsp?Rec_Id=PC35160)
“I am alive today, but part of the farming
population is going to be sacrificed and is going to die because of
(alachlor),” added Francois to Reuters.

Monsanto officially gives up on European approval for new GMO crops
Please like us on Facebook > The Natural Health Page
The good news:
Monsanto can’t get approval for new GMO crops in Europe. A Monsanto spokesmen
says they will withdraw all approval requests.
The bad news: Monsanto will concentrate on
getting European approval to import GMO crops grown in the US and South America.
Let’s hope European officials aren’t that stupid
or corrupt to grant this company such approval. The EU currently allows GMO
crop inputs for animal feed. In fact, it is one of the biggest importers of
this junk. This latest development suggests Monsanto is trying to deceitfully
expand that foot in the door into EU approval for GMOs in human food.
European consumers are overwhelmingly opposed to
such a move. If Monsanto persists in this stealth approach, there will be huge
anti-Monsanto GMO demonstrations across Europe.
US GMO opponents should take heart from European
developments. Consumer resistance is a powerful force and politicians ignore it
at their peril.
82% of Americans support GMO food labeling and
a GMO label would be a skull and crossbones on the package for health conscious
consumers.
GMO crops are actually registered as
pesticides! People are effectively eating genes that produce insecticides
when they eat GMO food.
US consumer awareness about GMOs should keep
growing and keep force Monsanto and other GMO firms (Syngenta, Dupont, Dow)
into retreat.
Let’s keep up the pressure on these corporate
criminals who put market domination and profit ahead of science and your
health!
Now here is the full article from reuters:
Now here is the full article from reuters:
(Reuters) - Monsanto Co said on Wednesday it will
withdraw all pending approval requests to grow new types of genetically
modified crops in the European Union, due to the lack of commercial prospects
for cultivation there.
"We will be withdrawing the approvals in the coming
months," Monsanto's President and Managing Director for Europe, Jose
Manuel Madero, told Reuters by telephone.
Madero said the decision would allow the company to focus on
growing its conventional seeds business in
Europe, as well as securing EU approvals to import its genetically modified
crop varieties widely grown in the United States and South America.
The decision covered five EU approval requests to grow genetically
modified maize, plus one soybean and one sugar beet. The company said it would
not withdraw its application to renew the approval for its insect-resistant
MON810 maize - the only GMO crop currently cultivated commercially in Europe.
A spokesman for the European Commission, which manages the EU's
GMO approval system, confirmed that Monsanto had informed it of its intention
to withdraw the applications.
The move reflects the frustration felt by many biotech companies
towards the EU's approval system for GMOs. Decisions routinely face years of
delays, and only three varieties have ever been given the green light for
cultivation.
While Monsanto's MON810 maize has been approved for cultivation
throughout the EU, several countries including France, Germany and
most recently Italy have imposed national bans, driven
by strong public opposition to the technology.
Last year, German biotech producer BASF halted the development of
genetically modified crops in Europe and moved all of its European GMO research
operations to the United States.
Despite public hostility to genetically modified foods, Europe is
one of the world's major buyers of biotech grain, importing more than 30
million metric tons of mostly GM animal feed each year for its livestock industry.
